The Rainbow Thief

It would, to me, be perfect bliss
If everything were colorless.
I wish, instead of colors, there were grays.

I'd steal a rainbow or I'd send
The world beyond a rainbow's end
To free myself from colors and their craze.

I'd teach a bird to hate the sight
Of rainbows, and to reach their height
So it could pierce the rainbows with its beak;

If only I could somehow drain
The rainbows that come after rain,
I'd have the dreary happiness I seek.
